Hillsboro sophomore Kristin Jamieson tied with seven other golfers for 34th place at the OHSAA Division I State Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Gray Course on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Jamieson, who was the first girls golfer for Hillsboro High School to qualify for the state Division I Tournament, finished with a score of 84 on the cold and windy day. She shot a 41 on the front nine of the course and a 43 on the back nine.
In her score of 84, Jamieson shot par five times on holes two, three, 10, 14 and 18. The sophomore also had two birdies on holes four and five.
“Saturday had very windy, tough conditions, and it was cold,” HHS girls golf head coach David Hilliard told The Highland County Press. “Kristin didn’t play as well as she did in her practice round, but she was up against some high competition.

“She pressed a little bit, and she shot decent for her, but not as well as she wanted to. That said, she played well for it being her first time at state, and we are all very proud of her.”
This season, the goals for Jamieson were for her team to win the league championship, which they did, but Hilliard said he had his players tell him what two of their individual goals are at the start of the season.
“Kristin told me her individual goals were that she wants to be a state champion while in high school,” Hilliard said. “The great thing about Kristin was she got a lot better this year from last year, and she was able to qualify for state as a sophomore.”
The match was originally scheduled to be a two-day event, but play was cancelled on Friday due to inclement weather and course conditions due to excess water from rain. Saturday was a winner-take-all event with the best score of the 18 holes played determining the state standings.
Winning the individual state championship were Dublin Jerome junior Abby Kiefer and Medina Highland senior Madison Butler, who each had a score of 71. The team state championship went to Lewis Center Olentangy Orange and Medina Highland, each with a score of 311.
At districts this postseason, Jamieson shot a 75 at The Links in Groveport. Also this season, Jamieson was a member of the South Central Ohio League champion Hillsboro girls golf team that went 14-1 in league play.
They finished 18-1 overall in the regular season. In the SCOL match at Buckeye Hills, Jamieson shot a 36 in nine holes, being the medalist in the event. That match was what really began her momentum for her successful postseason.
“As a team this year, we had two goals, and that was to win the SCOL and get beyond sectionals,” Hilliard said. “We accomplished what we wanted to as a team, and with the way Kristin played in the tournaments and how the team played this season, we wanted to generate more interest in golf.”
Hilliard ended by saying how well Jamieson represented herself and the school this weekend.
“Kristin represented herself and Hillsboro High School very well,” he said. “We are looking forward to more great things from her. She faced some tough competition, played with confidence and hopefully this can motivate others too for next season.”
