The Hillsboro Indians were unable to gain a road victory on Friday night, with their Week 5 loss coming from a dominating performance from the undefeated Jackson Ironmen, as the hosts won 48-7.
It wasn’t the best of games for the Hillsboro squad as they struggled to put drives together and were forced into more three-and-outs than they would have liked. On the other side, it was a dominating first-half performance by the Ironmen, who with the win improved to 4-0 in the Frontier Athletic Conference and 5-0 overall on the season.
The loss drops Hillsboro to 0-4 in the FAC and 0-5 overall.
The Indians’ lone touchdown came in the third quarter, as the Indians trailed by 42 points. In their only score of the game, it was Canaan Griffith catching a pass from Chris Stout for a 38-yard touchdown reception on a fourth-and-13 play. Nick Turner kicked the PAT to give the Indians seven points.
As for Jackson, their first score was a 15-yard pass from Evan Spires to Tristan Prater, although the score went to 14-0 off a 9-yard run by Hunter Webb, completing the first-quarter scoring.
With HHS held to under 10 yards in the first quarter, the offense of the Ironmen continued their dominant effort with their third score coming off a Spires pass to Prater for a 22-yard touchdown.
Still in the second, Jackson’s Treylan Davis had a 22-yard run to the end zone, and the fifth first-half touchdown for the Ironmen was an interception return of 65 yards to pay dirt by Prater.
Jackson’s final first-half score came off a pass from Spires to Blankenship for the 42-point advantage.
In the first half, the Indians were held to a single first down, while Jackson had 11.
The final touchdown scored by the Ironmen came in the fourth quarter when Jake Malone raced 21 yards to the end zone.
Next for the Hillsboro Indians (0-4, 0-5) is the annual Rotary Bowl on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. when they host the McClain Tigers (0-4, 0-5).
