The Hillsboro Indians' baseball team is coming around in a big way by avenging regular-season losses and gelling as a team at the best possible moment of the season.

HHS not only avenged two regular-season losses to the Washington Blue Lions, Thursday, but in defeating the Blue Lions by a 5-0 score at VA Memorial Stadium, the Indians were crowned with a Division II SE District Sectional championship in the process.

"This is the team we thought we would be at the beginning of the season," Hunt said. "Our plate discipline was great. We forced nine walks.

"What I'm proud of is the timely hitting and how it is coming around. The kids stayed up and cheered on their teammates … they supported each other, and that is what we want to continue to see."

The Indians scored two runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth for the win against their South Central Ohio League tournament opponent.

HHS now has two wins this postseason, as they defeated the Circleville Tigers by a 6-3 score in the first round of the sectionals.

For the game, HHS was led by Trey Moberly at 2-for-5 with three RBIs and one run.

Zach Young and Seth Meyer each had one hit, as Meyer also had an RBI, a walk and one run.

Alex Van Zant went 1-for-1 with a double, sacrifice and scored two runs.

Ryan LeMaster also scored a run, and Latrell Haithcock had one RBI.

LeMaster was also earned the win by pitching a complete game. The HHS starting pitcher struck out seven and allowed just two hits.

"Ryan pitched a great game," Hunt said. "He kept their batters off-balanced. He fought hard and kept working. The defense behind him was great with no errors, and this was a great team win."

HHS will play in the district semifinals on Monday at Ohio University at 5 or 7 p.m. against the winner of Jackson/Meigs.
