The Hillsboro Indians have found some old magic from previous seasons, as they have now won four straight games. The fourth win in a row came Monday evening, as they defeated South Central Ohio League foe Madison-Plains Golden Eagles 7-3 at Shaffer Park.
The win comes after HHS has gained consecutive wins over London, Rock Hill and Whiteoak, increasing their overall record to 6-3 and the SCOL mark at 4-2.
The two league losses have come to the Washington Blue Lions and Miami Trace Panthers.
On Monday the big blast of the game came from senior first baseman Airic Steagall, as he smashed a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
Before the homer by Steagall, the Indians trailed 2-1 after two and a half innings.
HHS scored their first run via Patrick Garman in the bottom of the second. Garman reached first on a single and was brought home with an RBI two-base hit from Paul Snyder.
In the third, Corey Walker was walked and A.J. Helterbrand had a sacrifice bunt to move Walker to second. Steagall then hit his aforementioned home run to right-center field to give the Tribe a 3-2 lead after three innings.
MP regained the lead in the fourth, but that would be their final run scored in the game.
HHS broke the tie in the fifth with a run from Helterbrand. Helterbrand reached with a single, followed with back-to-back walks by Dow Kiefer and Steagall. Logan Watson scored Helterbrand as he reached first on an error by the MP right fielder.
In the sixth, Logan Wilson struck out but took first on a passed ball by the Golden Eagles' catcher.
Brandon Wilson followed with a sacrifice and Walker drew a walk. Helterbrand reached first on a fielder's choice. Steagall followed with a walk, and Watson doubled in two base runners.
From the batter's box, Walker drew three walks for HHS, scoring two runs. Helterbrand was 1-for-3 with one run scored. Steagall was 1-for-2 with two walks. Watson gained three RBIs.
The Indians will face the Fairfield Lions on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
