The Hillsboro Indians' chances at the South Central Ohio League championship hit a minor bump Saturday afternoon at Madison-Plains High School.

Playing in a make-up game that was postponed for one day, the Indians lost their second SCOL game of the season, falling to the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles, 66-55.

Earlier in the season, HHS defeated the Golden Eagles (at HHS), 83-72. In that game, HHS scored 26 points in the first quarter and 30 points in the third frame.

The second time around, MP did most of the scoring.

MP (3-5, 5-6) led after the first quarter by three points at 16-13, but the second quarter didn't fare as well for HHS. The Indians were held to just nine points in the second eight-minute frame, while allowing another 16 points in a quarter against the Golden Eagles, falling behind 32-22 after the first 16 minutes of play.

The third quarter was the only quarter the Tribe outscored MP at 16-12, cutting the Golden Eagles' led to 44-38. But in the final frame, the HHS defense allowed the Golden Eagles to score 22 points, while scoring 17 for the 11-point loss. The fourth quarter was the Indians' and MP's most productive quarter offensively of the SCOL game.

Aric Carroll led all scorers with 17 points, making three 3-pointers.

As a team, HHS (6-2, 8-4) made nine 3-pointers but just two free throws. Also making 3-pointers for HHS were Devante Ames, Tyrand Cumberland and Eli Hogsett, as each player made two shots from beyond the arc.

Cumberland scored 10 points, followed by Hogsett with nine points. Ames finished with eight points, followed by Jarrod Hart with five points.

Dow Kiefer, Colt Coates and Caleb Wilson each scored two points for HHS.

Wolfe and Henry led MP with 13 points each. Lemieux scored 11 and Williams netted 10 points. Lemieux and Davis each made a 3-pointer.

MP made 12 free-throws.

The loss drops HHS to 6-2 in the SCOL, 8-4 overall. MP stands at 3-5 in the SCOL and 5-6 overall.

HHS is scheduled to face Associated Press Division II No. 2 ranked Chillicothe (Cavaliers) on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at CHS.[[In-content Ad]]
