HILLSBORO — The South Central Ohio League race to the boys golf championship just got a little closer as the Hillsboro Indians outlasted the McClain Tigers 168-187 for a league win, Tuesday at the Hillsboro Elks Golf Course.

The win puts the Indians at 6-1 overall in the SCOL with league wins over McClain, Clinton-Massie (twice), Miami Trace, Madison-Plains and Washington. The win against MP was on the road. Their lone loss came at London by one stroke at 170-171.

"I thought we would have had to play a lot better than that to win against (McClain) … but a win is a win," Hilsboro coach Dan Spidel said. "This is a big win for us because the league is so even."

Leading the way was Hillsboro's Austin Bagshaw with a match-low 41 on the Par 36 nine-hole course.

The remaining Hillsboro scores included Josh Clark and Thomas Wilkin each finishing with a score of 42.

Hillsboro's Taylor Anderson shot a 43, followed by scores of 45 from Levi Fleming and Alex Vanzant.

The Tigers are now 18-4 overall and 6-2 in the SCOL, losing to the Washington Blue Lions on Monday at the Washington County Club, by a team score of 169-176.

McClain's JT Bunner and Adam Sharp each led the Tigers with a team-low score of 44. Ryan Perie finished with a score of 49.

Jacob Branham and Seth Willman each finished with a 50, followed by Aaron Sharp with a 54.

On Monday, the Indians defeated the Clinton-Massie Falcons, 150-162 at Majestic Springs Golf Course.

Against the Falcons, Hillsboro's individual scores were: Fleming 34, Anderson 36, Bagshaw 37 and Clark 43.

"I was very proud of the way Taylor bounced back after early struggles on the first three holes," Spidel said. "Taylor played his last six holes (against CM) two under par."

The Indians are scheduled travel to face the Blue Lions on Thursday at the Washington CC in a SCOL match.

McClain's next match will be vs. Madison-Plains on Thursday at Buckeye Hills Country Club.[[In-content Ad]]
