It looked like the Clinton-Massie Falcons were going to cruise away with a South Central Ohio League victory on Monday night at Hillsboro High School, but the hosts had different plans.

CM led by a 5-2 score in the second half and was controlling the tempo of the match in their favor, but HHS scored three straight goals to tie the game at 5-5 in a span of around 10 minutes. Those goals made the score and match more exciting, but that rally wasn’t enough.

The Falcons stood strong and scored two more goals on the night, taking home the league win back to Clinton County by a 7-5 score.

In what was a physical match from the time the opening whistle sounded, it was CM who had Matt Asher score the first goal of the league contest, coming at the 38:41 mark for the 1-0 lead.

HHS tied the score with a goal by Quinn Conlon at the 34:42 mark, with that goal being the first of his three goals in the match.

Cameron Baker of the Falcons gave CM the lead with 30:27 on the first-half clock for a 2-1 score, but HHS was there again, this time with Austin Goolsby tying the score at 2-2 with 7:12 left in the opening half.

The score stayed tied to halftime, but the Falcons made things rough on the Indians by scoring a goal at the 36:48 mark of the second half, as Baker put CM ahead at 3-2. The Falcons added to their lead with goals from Zach Hammonds (30:13) and Mitchell Bills for a 5-2 advantage with 26:36 remaining in the match.

Hillsboro didn’t fold when Lane Mason scored a goal at the 14:14 mark, followed by two more goals by Conlon at the 12:31 mark and with 9:24 left in the match for a hat trick, tying the score at 5-5.

CM regained the lead once again, this time for good, with another goal by Hammonds with 7:43 left on the clock, and the final goal from Asher with 5:36 stated on the scoreboard.

The loss moves the Indians to 1-8 in the SCOL this season. They will play at Chillicothe on Tuesday and McClain on Thursday in league action.
