Dating back to last season, the Hillsboro Indians have won six straight games, gaining their fourth straight win to start the season on Friday night and winning their Week 4 game on the road at Williamsburg by a 55-35 score.

The Indians (4-0) have defeated Western Brown, Goshen, East Clinton and now Williamsburg in their first four games of the season, with all four opponents from the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference. The other two wins during this current streak from the ’17 season came against McClain and Miami Trace during the final two weeks of the regular season.

As for their most recent win, Hillsboro had an unofficial total of 516 yards of offense, all coming on rushing plays. The Wildcats totaled 380 yards of offense with 248 yards passing and 132 yards rushing, unofficially.

“We made a lot of mental mistakes in the secondary tonight, and we made a lot of mistakes letting the quarterback out of the pocket,” Hillsboro head coach Jack O’Rourke said on the WSRW 101.5 FM postgame interview. “When [WHS quarterback Loghan Kelley] got out of the pocket, he hurt us bad. I’m sure we’ll be working on a lot of things this week defensively, but containing the quarterback in coverage in the secondary will be a big, major emphasis for us, for sure.”

Even with the 20-point victory by Hillsboro, it was Williamsburg who scored first with a fourth-down touchdown pass by Max Boland to Dyllan West. The PAT by Willow Kenneda made it a 7-0 deficit for the Indians.

The Indians had an answer for the Wildcats’ score, and it was taking the ball and putting it in the hands of Josh Keets as he scored the first Indians touchdown of the game, off a 25-yard run to pay dirt. The PAT by Reece Bloomfield made it a 7-7 score with 5:21 left in the opening frame.

On the Indians’ next possession, it was Keets again who took the ball to the end zone, this time going 20 yards for six points and his second TD of the game. Again, the PAT by Bloomfield was good for a 14-7 Indians advantage with 2:15 left in the first quarter.

Leading by seven points to start the second frame, the Indians lost that advantage when Tim McPhillips of Williamsburg caught a pass for a touchdown. The PAT was good, tying the score at 14-14 with 10:09 left in the second quarter.

For the third straight possession, the Indians scored a touchdown, as Mark Gallimore scored a touchdown on a first-and-goal play. Following the PAT, the Indians led 21-14 with 9:00 left in the first half.

Gallimore scored another touchdown with 5:21 left in the second quarter, racing to the end zone on a first down play for 47 yards and the score. Bloomfield made his fourth straight PAT for a 28-14 Hillsboro lead.

The Indians weren’t finished scoring in the first half with Deon Burns rushing five yards for a touchdown on a first down play with under 2:00 left in the quarter. The PAT by Bloomfield made it a 35-14 Hillsboro lead.

Williamsburg didn’t go down without a fight to end the first half as Loghan Kelley passed to McPhillips in the end zone on first-and-goal for a 35-21 halftime score.

There was second-half scoring aplenty, and the Indians would have been remiss if they didn’t take advantage of a fumble recovery by the Wildcats to start the third frame.

The Indians added to their lead on their first drive of the third quarter following the aforementioned fumble, for a 42-21 lead. The TD occurred when Mason Swayne battled into the end zone on a 1-yard rush less than two minutes into the third frame following a turnover by Williamsburg. The PAT by Bloomfield made it a 42-21 score.

The Wildcats answered with a TD with 4:32 left in the third when Boland raced the end zone for six points, making it a 42-28 score following the converted extra point.

Three plays later, it was the Indians equaling the feat when Keets rushed 65 yards for a touchdown with 4:05 left in the third quarter. The PAT make left the score at 49-28.

In the fourth, McKibben raced 7 yards for a touchdown with 7:11 left in regulation for the Wildcats. The PAT made it a 49-35 score with Hillsboro still leading by 15 points.

On Hillsboro's first play following the kickoff, Swayne raced 80 yards for the touchdown. The PAT was no good, leaving the score 55-35 in favor of the Indians for the final touchdown of the game.

Next week, the Indians will host the Clermont Northeastern Rockets for homecoming at Richards Memorial Field.
