The Hillsboro Indians used a near-shutout pitching performance by senior Sajoun Jones, along with timely hitting with runners on the bases, to gain a 3-1 South Central Ohio League win over the visiting Washington Blue Lions, Wednesday.
HHS (5-1) saw starting pitcher Jones pitch the complete seven innings from the mound, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and one walk. Jones also struck out six batters. For the game, Jones threw 101 pitches, 66 for strikes.

“Sajoun pitched a good game, and so far this year he’s looked good,” HHS head coach Matt Garman said. “He had a quality start his first time out in a game we won against Unioto and had another fantastic game tonight. He was in control of the game, and defensively, we played well behind him.”
At the plate and on the bases, the Indians took the one-run lead after the first inning concluded with Mason Stanley rounding the bases and scoring off an RBI swing by senior Brian Smith.
Each team scored a run in the third inning with Stanley scoring a second run, this time batted in by Hunter Chain, with the Indians taking a 2-1 lead after three innings.
Of the eight hits by the Indians, Stanley was 2-for-3 with two runs. Also with two hits was Smith at 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians gained an insurance run with a solo home run off the bat of Cayse Cameron for a two-run advantage.
Also with one hit each for the Indians were Chain, Payton Bell and Jared Scott. HHS forced no walks in the league win.
“We looked better at the plate than we did in the past couple nights out,” Garman said. “We were hitting the baseball from top to bottom. We got a couple big hits in a couple big moments, and that was the story of the game.
“It was a fantastic win all the way around, and everyone played well and did their job.”
The Blue Lions finished the game with three hits and one error. HHS totaled two errors in the win.
Hillsboro will next play Thursday, April 6 vs. Western Brown in a non-league game in Hillsboro. On Friday, April 7, the Indians are scheduled to play an SCOL game at Miami Trace. Both games begin at 5 p.m.
