The lone home match for the Hillsboro Indians didn't finish in their favor on Thursday evening, as they dropped a South Central Ohio League tri-match against both the Miami Trace Panthers and the Wilmington Hurricane.

The Indians are in a rebuild mode of sorts this season, so facing the reigning SCOL champion in Miami Trace was no easy task. HHS lost to the visiting Panthers, 72-6. MT also defeated the Hurricane, 57-18 to start the SCOL season at 2-0.

Hillsboro head coach James Jones spoke about the losses following the event.

"We have a lot of improving to do," he said. "I want to apologize to the community and to the parents because I didn't have the team prepared. I blame myself.

"We have to have more self motivation. It is a long season, and hopefully this is the bottom and we are going to start working our way up. I saw some good things, but we just need to improve."

Against the Panthers, the lone win came via forfeit, with Dawson Carter earning the six points for the Indians at 106 pounds.

Then in the final of the three team matches, the Indians lost to the Hurricane, 42-24.

For the Indians in that SCOL match, Carter won at 106 pounds via pin fall at 1:07 in the first round over Sawyer Garrison of WHS.

The Indians also scored points from Toby Warrington at 138 pounds when he won with a first-round pin fall at 1:57 over Isaac Allen.

At 152 pounds, Lane Hester also won via pin fall in 19 seconds over Doug Eastes.

In close and competitive matches for the Indians, Jed Asmus lost by a 6-3 decision at 195 pounds.

At 220 pounds, Skylar Murphy lost, 6-4 at 220 pounds. In that match, Murphy and his opponents Mark Huff (WHS) were tied at 4-4 after two rounds. In the final two minutes, Murphy had his opponent face-first in the mat, while applying pressure.

From there, Huff was able to sit up and reverse the hold for two points and the eventual win, as he fended off every effort by Murphy to keep the advantage.

Also for the Indians, Evan Risley won at 285 pounds via forfeit.
