For the second time in the past two years, the Hillsboro Indians bowling team won their sectional tournament on Friday, Feb. 17.

The Indians had team games of 987, 1,047 and 1,046. They took a 249-pin lead going into the Baker round, but they weren't done yet. They came out firing 214, 216, 232, 215, 155 and 175 to win by 347 pins.

Hillsboro was led by senior Tyler King with a 741 series, with games of 265, 272 and 204. King also finished first out of 96 bowlers.

Coming in second for the Indians was senior Hunter Lowe, with a 658 series, with games of 227, 237, and 194.

“Tyler was on fire,” Hillsboro head coach Shane Ison said. “Hunter bowled great all day. It was just what the doctor ordered: he showcased his talent that we all knew was there.”

Freshman Hayden Miller finished third for HHS with a 607 series, with games of 199, 203, and 205. Fourth was senior Sajoun Jones with a 593 series, with games of 175, 197 and 221.

“Hayden practiced extra this week to be ready for the big show,” Ison said. “Sajoun battled for the first game and a half, made some equipment adjustments, then the strike parade began.”

In fifth, it was a struggle for sophomores Christian McConeahea and Brendon Ormes. The first two games were 121 and 138, then shot a 222 game three. Sophomore Ty Alexander went into the last Baker game and had two marks in the only two frames he got to bowl. Another Hillsboro sophomore, Andrew Louderback, was plagued by the flu and had to leave early.

The Indians will battle for a state bid at the district tournament Friday, Feb. 24 at Shawnee Lanes in Chillicothe. The start time will be 11 a.m. The community is welcome to come and support the Indians.

“I’m very proud of the team,” Ison said. “Now, we need to get a district title and send our seniors out in style.”
