LANCASTER — The Hillsboro Indians have advanced to the sectional final in the Division II SE District bracket with a 1-0 win over the Fairfield-Union Falcons, Tuesday night at the home field of the Falcons.
Hillsboro scored their lone goal with 30 minutes remaining in the first half when junior Jordan O'Connor put the Tribe up 1-0.
The remainder of the match the Indians looked to their defense to help keep the Falcons scoreless … and the defense didn't disappoint.
Senior keeper Corey Walker finished the match with 36 total saves. Walker had 23 saves on goal and 13 more away from the net.
"This was Corey's best game of the season. His play was outstanding," HHS coach John Weber said. "Every player stepped up and played at 110 percent tonight.
"Their motivation was to play on Saturday, and they were ready and willing to do what was needed to get that game. Getting to Saturday was their motivation."
Saturday's game isn't just any other match.
The match, which starts at 4 p.m, will be for a sectional championship and will be played against their cross-county rival McClain at McClain Field.
This season, the McClain Tigers won their third straight South Central Ohio League title. En route to that championship, they tied Hillsboro 1-1 (at HHS) and defeated the Indians (at McClain Field) 4-2.
"We can't wait to play the game Saturday," Weber said. "It will be a must-see game … no doubt about it. Both games earlier this year were excellent by both teams, but we just didn't finish at the end."
The Indians stand at 9-5-3 overall this season.
