For two days, the members of the Hillsboro Indians and McClain Tigers competed at the Division II Regional Track and Field Championships at Muskingum University in New Concord, where Hillsboro sent both Draven Stodgel and Deon Burns to the state championships next weekend.

Stodgel qualified for the Division II State Track and Field Championships for the second straight year, as the junior qualified for the discus throw and shot put events with his performances at the two-day regional event. Stodgel won the regional championship in the discus event with a throw of 169-00 in day one of the event.

The second day on Saturday, Stodgel was regional runner-up in the shot put event with a distance of 53-09.25.

Joining Stodgel at the state shot put event will be Burns, as the senior placed fourth overall at regionals with a shot put distance of 52-03.50 to qualify for state for the first time at track and field.

Both Burns and Stodgel were also members of the Hillsboro football team this past fall that qualified for the state playoff tournament, and Burns this past winter was a member of the HHS bowling team that also qualified for the state tournament.

Last year as a sophomore, Stodgel competed at the state track and field championships in both the shot put and discus events. In the shot put state event, his best throw was 49-06.00 for 13th place. He was also 13th place last year at state in the discus throw with a best distance of 131-09.
