Saturday, Oct. 28 marked the second annual Mini-Rotary Bowl between Hillsboro Youth Football and the Greenfield Tiger Cubs.
Both programs are made of two teams: a junior varsity (third and fourth grade, with Greenfield using some fifth graders on JV) and a varsity team (fifth and sixth grade). The youth programs are on the same schedule as the High School.
Last year, the game was held at Hillsboro Youth Football Field (Liberty Park), just like the Rotary Bowl was held at Hillsboro High School. This year, the programs mirrored the high school and played at McClain Field.
Last season, Hillsboro was able to defend their home field and follow in the high school’s footsteps to win both JV and varsity Mini-Rotary Bowls. This year, Hillsboro High School went to McClain and won 61-13 to make it back-to-back Rotary Bowl wins. The Hillsboro Youth Football strived to do the same, and Greenfield vied to end the streak.
Junior varsity played first, and Hillsboro Youth Football won 39-0. Varsity played after Greenfield’s sixth grade recognition/Parent Night. Hillsboro Youth Football won the varsity contest, 39-0 as well.
Hillsboro Rotary Club came together last year to purchase trophies for the rivalry. Brett Barton, a member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, was in attendance to present the trophies to the winning organization.
The football programs would like to give a big thanks to McClain High School and their athletic department for allowing the Greenfield Tiger Cubs use of their facilities. Travis O’Connor of Greenfield has worked methodically organizing and communicating since July to obtain permission and was successful at his attempt with the help of Greenfield’s athletic director Trevor Arnett.
Members of the Hillsboro Youth Football junior varsity team this season were: Camden Cruea, Brody Fauber, Jahari Pitts, Paxton Cruea, Jeven Hochstuhl, Spencer Mason, Zaydenn Scruggs, Kamren Hottinger, Logan Barton, Braylon Mayes, Preston Fauber, Chase Limo, John Deans, William Akers, Jack Cornele, Noah Holsinger, Conner Howland, Jacob Kiley, Steven Gaskins, Xander Lake, Landon Jordan, Grady Horick, Liam Horick, Garry McDonald, Talon Bennett, James McCoy, Jordan Davis and Collin Swackhamer.
The Hillsboro Youth Football varsity team included members Kelton Burson, Blaine Fauber, Jamar Young, Otis Cockerill, Logan Elliott, Hunter Scarberry, Steven Kibler, Cooper Yinger, Jaiden Captain, Corbin Willey, Ashton Clemons, Noah Vaughn, Casey West, Chandler Burson, Nakai Frump, Caiden Fauber, Keahi Mhanna, Levi Anderson, Ian Fenner, Logan Ritchie, Ian Lawson, Aiden Bennett, Ayden Clemons, Chase Newman, Garrett Rhodes, Charlie Stuckey, Brayden Scruggs, Khainnon Green, Trey House, Dorian Stewart, Dylan Barton, Jack Wagoner and Kyle Ross.
