The Hillsboro Lady Indians were unable to fend off the visiting Washington Lady Blue Lions, as they were swept in three straight sets Tuesday night at Hillsboro High School in Frontier Athletic Conference play.

Hillsboro lost the conference opener by scores of 17-25, 13-25 and 13-25 on their home court, moving their overall record to 1-5 on the season.

In set one for Hillsboro, Sydney Bobbitt scored six points to lead in the scoring. That was followed in the second set with Gracie Dean leading Hillsboro with five points. The third set saw both Dean and Bobbitt each score three points.

“We struggled with our serve and receiving. Washington serves aggressively, and we just struggled this evening,” Hillsboro head coach Nichole Dickey said. “We had good plays at the net, which helped out our back row.”

Though Hillsboro has lost five matches this season, in three of those matches the Lady Indians were in the match until the end, losing by two points in matches against Fairfield, East Clinton and Western Brown.

“The ability is there for the girls, but there is a lot of work to do,” Dickey said. “The girls work hard, and we just need to keep working and the improvement will come.”

In JV play, Washington won by scores of 25-17 and 20-12. The Hillsboro junior high teams won their matches vs. Washington, with the seventh grade teams winning in three sets and the eighth grade team winning in two sets.

Next for Hillsboro is a FAC match on Thursday, Aug. 30 as they travel to Jackson.
