Hillsboro tennis defeats Broncos

    The Hillsboro boys tennis team improved to 4-1 overall with a 3-2 match win over the Western Brown Broncos Wednesday in Hillsboro.
    In first singles, Hillsboro's Ross Chambers took his match 6-3, 6-2 over Western Brown's Nate Robinson.  In the match, Chambers executed with a mix of slice, spin and angled shots.    
    In Hillsboro's third singles Reese Leibreich claimed victory over Chase Latham (WB) 6-3, 7-5.
    The Indians' first doubles combo of Ben Rhoads and Stanley Lennigan gained the winning score (6-1, 6-2) over John Rymer and Blake Elliott.    
    In second doubles, Johnny Abel and Derek Boone (HHS) lost 4-6, 4-6 to the Broncos' George Howard and Austin Creech. In second singles, Andrew Goolsby (HHS) lost a close match to McRee Kidwell 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.

    On Tuesday, April 6 HHS won an South Central Ohio League contest against the London Red Raiders by a score of 3-2.
    In first and second singles, Hillsboro's Ross Chambers and Trong Le respectively lost their matches to London's Yuta NaKamura (4-6, 4-6) and London's Eric Gunthorp (4-6, 4-6); the remaining courts were all Hillsboro victories.
    HHS third singles player Andrew Goolsby won over London's Dylan Ewing 6-2, 6-4. HHS then won in first doubles with Ben Rhoads and Stanley Lennigan defeating London's Ryota Nokawads and Jason Thomas 6-1. 7-6.
    In second doubles, Johnny Abel and Derek Boone turned the tide to a win their match against London's Jacob Buckland and Eric Thomas 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.   
    Hillsboro coach LaRue Turner was proud of the winning ways of his doubles teams, while expressing enthusiastic recognition about the way Abel and Boone came back from an early deficit for a solid win.   
    "Third singles by Andrew Goolsby turned in his best tennis of the year," Turner said. "He had aggressive net play and mental tenacity throughout his match."

        On Thursday, April 4, HHS gained a 5-0 sweep over Clinton-Massie.  
    Indians' first singles senior Ross Chambers won 6-3, 6-0, followed with wins by senior Trong Le in second singles 6-3, 6-2. In third singles, freshman Reese Leibreich won 6-1, 6-2.  
    The first doubles match with junior Ben Rhoads and junior Stanley Lennigan won 6-0, 7-6. The second doubles match with seniors Johnny Abel and Derek Boone won 6-4, 6-1.

    On March 31, HHS lost to host Blanchester 2-3.  
    Winning courts for the Indians included:  first doubles Ben Rhodes and Stanley Lennigan 6-3, 6-2 over Blanchester's Nash Ballinger and Jordan Pittman.  In second doubles, Johnny Abel and Christian Gunderman scored the other winning court for HHS over Jake Howe and Chad Bradenberg.[[In-content Ad]]
