GREENFIELD — The McClain and Hillsboro varsity girls soccer teams both played extremely hard in Tuesday night, but it was Hillsboro who left McClain Field with a 4-1 conference victory.
Hillsboro got single goals from Madi Marsh and Callan Myers in the Frontier Athletic Conference match, leading 2-0 at the intermission in a defensive and well-played half by both teams.
“It’s always a good game when Hillsboro and McClain play. and I thought both teams played well tonight,” Hillsboro head coach Jeremy Ratcliff said after the match. “The conditions were not great. It was really hot and muggy, plus we just had a really tough game with Lynchburg-Clay (Monday), so I’m pretty happy with how well our girls played.”

The Lady Indians scored early second-half goals by Myers and Emily Hawk to take a 4-0 lead.
McClain earned their only score of the match when freshman Kerigan Pollard had a goal at the 25:25 mark of the second half.
“I thought we missed out on a couple of scoring opportunities, and a couple of their goals were due to some fundamental breakdowns, but overall I’m happy with how my girls played (Tuesday),” McClain head coach Shawn Peterman said. “Our passing and ball movement was much better, which allowed us to maintain possession of the ball longer.
“If we can build off of how we played, I think we can get things turned around for the rest of the season.”
McClain will play Jackson at home Thursday, and Hillsboro hosts Washington Thursday.
