Hillsboro softball moves on

The Hillsboro Lady Indians did what they had to do, scoring a clutch run late in the game to move on to the sectional finals, defeating Circleville, 7-6 at Alice Cassner Field, Wednesday.
In the Division II SE District Sectional Semifinal game, the Lady Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the second with Ali Stratton, Kirsten Juillerat and Savannah Scott rounding the bases.
The second began with Juillerat (2-for-3) hitting a lead-off double, and later she was scored on a single by Scott. The next two runs by Scott and Stratton (2-for-3) were scored off a two-RBI single by Kerstin Thornburgh.
In the fourth, Stratton, Thornburgh and Hanna Breeden each scored runs. Breeden batted in Stratton with a double, while Thornburgh and Breeden each scored their runs with a two-RBI single by Madison Snyder.
In the sixth, Breeden (who doubled with two outs) scored the game-winning run off a two-out double by Snyder.
Snyder was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Breeden finished the game 3-for-3 with three doubles. Breeden was also the winning pitcher, going all seven innings.
"We had a solid defensive night behind Breeden," HHS head coach Katie Moberly said. "The girls made the plays they were supposed to make.
"Everyone contributed, whether it be in the field or at the plate. This was a great team effort against a good team."
HHS will play the No. 1 seeded Fairfield Union Lady Falcons on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Union H.S.
