The Hillsboro Indians had a tough task in front of them on Friday night as they had to travel to Clarksville to face one of the South Central Ohio League leaders in the Clinton-Massie Falcons, in CM’s homecoming game.
The Indians didn’t fare well on the scoreboard, falling to the Falcons, 49-0, with the Falcons extending their SCOL winning streak to 56 straight games, dating back to the ’07 season. CM also scored points in each quarter against the Indians.
Hillsboro’s loss moves them to 1-6 overall, losing their past four games, and winless in the league at 0-4. CM improves to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCOL.
“They’re really tough,” Hillsboro head coach Jack O’Rourke said of Clinton-Massie. “You can’t catch up with them and they’re a very physical football team. They’re what we want to be, run a similar type of offensive with a similar type of concepts. They’ve been doing it, these kids have been doing this since the sixth, fifth, fourth, third grade where we’ve got one year under our belt. That’s probably what really separates us right now.
“We got a penalty, and then we got the penalty back and had the ball on the 3-yard line with 20-some seconds to go there and we fumbled it. That’s the kind of stuff we did all night. That’s what you deal with when you deal with lack of confidence. When I talked to the kids afterwards, I said look. They believed in themselves, and tonight we didn’t do it at times. When you go in there with doubt, you make mistakes.”

The Falcons led 14-0 after the first quarter off a 24-yard run by Devin O’Bryon and a two-yard rush by Jaycob Wolf.
CM took a 28-0 advantage off a Cole O’Bryon catch of 49 yards, then a touchdown run from Wolf. The converted PATs on both touchdowns.
The score went to 35-0 when Triston Hill had a touchdown on a special teams play with around four minutes left in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Falcons had touchdowns from Christian Poynter, followed with a final score later in the fourth quarter.
Unofficially, the Indians totaled 145 yards of offense, with 81 from rushing and 64 passing.
CM unofficially finished with 351 yards of total offense.
As for the Indians, they nearly scored a touchdown late in the second quarter but fumbled near the goal line.
Next week, the Indians host East Clinton (0-4, 0-7) for Homecoming in Week 8. The Falcons travel to face the Chillicothe Cavaliers as both of those teams are undefeated in the SCOL.
