Hillsboro, McClain track & field athletes advance to regionals

The Hillsboro Indians and McClain Tigers competed in the 2021 Division II SE District Meet, hosted in Washington Court House, on May 18 and 22.

The Hillsboro boys were the district runners-up, and the McClain boys finished in third place. In the girls meet, the Lady Tigers were fourth place, and Hillsboro finished in eighth place out of 14 teams.

Below are results for both the Hillsboro and McClain boys and girls teams.

McClain district champions included:

• Braden Wright in the high jump.

• The boys 4x100 team of Brandon King, Wright, Seth Wise and Matt Bliss.

• The girls 4x400 team of Iva Easter, Luca Matesic, Ryan Butterbaugh and Kaitlyn Jett.
 
Also moving on to regionals for McClain (Top 4 finishers) along with the winners are:

• Seth Wise, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles. 

• Iva Easter, finishing second in the 100-meter dash.

• Kerigan Pollard, finishing third in the 100-meter dash and third in 300-meter hurdles. 

• The girls 4x200 team of Matesic, Butterbaugh, Macey McCune and Easter.

• The girls 4x100 team of Emma Stegbauer, Matesic, McCune and Easter.

• The girls 4x400 team of Easter, Matesic, Butterbaugh and Kaitlyn Jett.

• The boys 4x400 team of Bliss, Alex Snyder, Wright and Lyle White.

• Genève Baril, finishing third in the 1600-meter run and second in the 3200-meter run. 

• Lily Barnes, finishing third in shot put and fourth in discus.

Hillsboro district champions included:

• Anthony Richards in the long jump.

• Kai Rickman in the 100m and 200m dashes.

• The 4x200m boys relay team of Logan Weber, Malaki Porter, Anthony Richards and Kai Rickman.
 
The following are also regional qualifiers in their events:

• Zach Burns, finishing second in shot put.

• Weber, Porter, Owen Ryan and Anthony Richards finishing second in the 4x400m relay.
 
Additional results for Hillsboro boys include:
 
• Shot put: Derek Whitt, sixth;

• High jump: Kaden Boris, tied for fifth;

• 4x100 relay: Weber, Richards, Porter and Rickman, eighth; and

• Pole vault: Ryan.
 
The Lady Indians finished eighth overall.
 
Regional qualifiers included:

• Bre Karnes, Sydney Callahan, Sinai Roberts and Allison Browning in the 4x200m Relay.
 
Other individual results include:

• 4x800 Relay: Addyson Miles, Ramsey Haines, Brooklynn Minton, Bree Bailey, sixth.

• Long Jump: Sydney Callahan (fifth), Riley Barton (seventh).

• Shot put: Kenzie Dietrick, eighth.

• Discus: Dietrick, fifth.

• High jump: Barton and Cierra Lively, tied for fifth.

• Pole vault: Bella Allen, seventh.

• 3200-meter run: Haines, eighth.

• 4x400 relay: Callahan, Roberts, Rylie Scott and Browning, fifth.

• 200m dash: Kelsey Gilkison, sixth.
