The Hillsboro Lady Indians’ annual Youth Basketball Camp ran from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1.
Coach JR Moberly, Coach Jenni Gleadle and members of the Hillsboro High School girls basketball teams instructed participants on fundamentals from dribbling, passing and shooting to boxing out.

This camp also partnered with the HCS Tomahawk Food Truck, which allowed participants to eat breakfast and lunch at the high school as part of feeding the area’s youth.
Mixed in with the teaching and eating were plenty of fun and games and again demonstrated why this camp is a must for Hillsboro City Schools youth. The camp included seventh and eighth graders in the morning session and third through sixth grades, along with a handful of second graders, in the afternoon session. All four days focused on a structured pattern of warmups to physical activities to fun competitive games. This year’s camp saw 50 participants, all of whom received a Hillsboro camp T-shirt.
Fundamentals and tradition were two major aspects of the camp. Not only fundamentals of basketball, but life as well, were highlighted. The players came together as a family to support two high school players following a family emergency. Coach Moberly and Coach Gleadle, with the help of other school staff, were able to take a group picture for the two girls. On the last day of camp, the two girls returned, and their second family was happy to have them back. This program is not just about basketball, but a sisterhood and a tradition of competitiveness and camaraderie.
The camp concluded with a fun presentation by Buckeye Dentistry, and Dr. Joseph Jordan challenged everyone to floss.
Keep a lookout next year on the school’s website for fliers and information on this “must-attend” camp.
