The 2017 Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball season hasn’t begun with the final results they want to achieve by season’s end, as they lost to the visiting Jackson Ironladies in three straight sets on Thursday night in Frontier Athletic Conference play.
HHS (0-2, 1-6) have lost their past six matches following a season-opening win over Fairfield at the Spike & Dig match to start the 2017 season in a best-of-three match.

On Thursday night, the Lady Indians lost to JHS by scores of 25-4, 25-16 and 25-7.
“As a team, as a whole, we are struggling,” HHS head coach Nichole Dickey said. “Every day the girls come to practice and they are working, and we are just going to continue to keep working. The girls can do it and see how the season plays out.”
The second set was the most competitive of the match with the score being tied at 8-8, 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11.
From that point on, though, the second set and the remainder of the match was all Ironladies. After the score was tied at 11-11 following the Ironladies hitting their own side of the net, they responded by scoring the next five points, especially off the serve, to take a 16-11 advantage.
Eventually, JHS built a five-point lead at 20-15, then went on to score five of the next six points, which ended the match for a 25-16 win for the visitors.
In the third set, Hillsboro trailed 6-0 right out of the gate, but the scoring run was broken up by freshman Delaney Eakins with a kill at the net. HHS later scored their second point of the third set with JHS hitting the ball out of play for an 8-2 deficit.
Later, the third HHS point of set three was scored by junior Sydney Bobbitt at the net, though HHS trailed by a score of 11-3.
In the third set, HHS also had scoring from sophomore Paige Loudin, sophomore Abby Brown and Eakins. Even with the scoring by the Lady Indians, it was the the Ironladies who controlled the pace late in the set, scoring the final five points of the third set for the match victory.
Next for Hillsboro is on Sept. 9 in a home non-conference match vs. Fayetteville. HHS will have the next week off in game action due to the Highland County Fair.
