HILLSBORO — It was another dominating performance in Frontier Athletic Conference play on Friday night when the Hillsboro Lady Indians defeated the visiting Jackson Ironladies, 13-3 in six innings.
The FAC win by Hillsboro keeps them at the top of the conference standings, as they are 5-0 in conference play. For the season, the Lady Indians are 13-3 overall.
On Friday night, the Lady Indians scored five of their 13 runs in the bottom of the second, then added two runs each in both the fourth and fifth innings. From there, the Lady Indians put an end to the game with a four-run six inning. Jackson scored two of their runs in the top of the fifth inning, and their first run was in the top of the third.
“We are always happy with a win,” HHS head coach Katie Moberly said. “We had to adjust to two different pitchers, and both of them threw well. We hadn’t seen a pitcher since Monday. We made nice adjustments to both pitchers, and everyone contributed to this win in different ways.
“Whether it is putting a bunt down and moving runners or getting the clutch hit, that is always good to see. The girls are definitely doing a lot of good things right now. The girls are coming together, they all get along well, and that is nice to see.”
Hillsboro had five players have at least two hits on the night, led by Kayla Roberts at 3-for-3 with one run and three RBI.
Halle Reveal was 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while Kinsey Gilliland went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Kenzie Dietrick finished 2-for-4 with one run and three RBI in the conference win.
Also for the Lady Indians in the victory, Abigail Pettyjohn was 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI and a walk. KaleyJo Myers also drew a walk for Hillsboro as did Emma Taylor.
Myers, Kelcie Thornburgh, Taylor (two) and Bre Karnes all scored runs for the Lady Indians on Friday. Reveal and Taylor were also both hit by a pitch.
Roberts was the winning pitcher, as she pitched six innings. She allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks as she threw 104 pitches. For the outing, Roberts totaled 10 strikeouts.
“Kayla pitched another great game, and we’ve come to expect that from her,” Moberly said. “It is a hard spot to put a sophomore in and expect her to do that, but that’s what is expected of her, and she comes through every time.
“Also, Gilliland behind the plate goes unnoticed because she does everything right, and the umpires truly appreciate her. Even if it is a pitch in the dirt, she keeps the ball in front and keeps the runners where they are at. She calls a nice game back there and keeps everyone where they need to be. She goes unnoticed because she does everything right.”
Next for Hillsboro is an FAC game on Monday, April 26 as they travel to face the Miami Trace Lady Panthers.
