The Hillsboro Indians boys track and field team were crowned champions of the South Central Ohio League Track and Field Championships on Wednesday evening, as they raced, hurdled, jumped, tossed and vaulted their way to their first league championship since 2012.

Hillsboro won the event with a first-place score of 137, followed by McClain in second place with a score of 113 and Clinton-Massie taking the third spot out of eight schools with 109 points.

The fourth place spot went to Chillicothe (97), followed by Miami Trace (78), Wilmington (47), Washington (45) and East Clinton (35).

The girls league title was won by Chillicothe with 176 points. McClain placed fifth with 63 points, and Hillsboro was seventh with 45 points.

In the boys meet, HHS senior Mackenzie Conlon won four events, including two hurdles events and two relay events en route to the Indians winning the championship at Chillicothe High School. He was first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.33), 300m hurdles (39.37) and a part of the 4x200m relay (1:31.57) and 4x400m relay (3:34.19) teams.

Also on the 4x200 team were Luke Gallimore, Anthony Anderson and Braden Wildey. Members of the 4x400 team also included Gallimore, Anderson and Ty Alexander.

Wildey also was first place in the 200m dash (22.82) for the Indians.

“The kids did a super job,” HHS boys head coach Bud Marsh said. “I couldn’t be more proud of a group of kids. We harped to them all week that it was going to be close, but we knew we had a chance to win it, and the kids did their best.

“We set a new league record in the 4x200-meter relay race, and Austin Goolsby set a new school record in the pole vault. Mackenzie had four first-place finishes, and it was just a very good day for the team. Braden Wildey also really stepped up big time for winning a tough race, and again, it was just a great team victory. Everyone contributed to this win.”

In all, Hillsboro totaled six first-place finishes, along with three second-place finishes and three third-place finishes. Highland County counterpart McClain also finished with six first-place spots, while adding one second-place finish and three third-place finishes.
