The Hillsboro High School swim team hosted Clinton-Massie in a dual swim meet at the Highland County YMCA this week.
This was the team’s first meet of the season. The Clinton-Massie girls outswam the Lady Indians, 40-36, in a close contest.
Freshman Marissa Daniels led Hillsboro in individual points by taking first place in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.
Senior Sydni Cox was close behind, taking first place in the 500 freestyle and second place in the 100 backstroke.
The girls took first and second place in the 200 freestyle relay with Kaylee Achor, Sydni Cox, Marissa Daniels and Joci Taylor swimming for the first-place team and Izzy Boone, Chloe Griggs, Brittany Rhoads and Lexii Sears swimming for the second-place team.
The girls had one 200 Medley Relay team, made up of Sydni Cox, Chloe Griggs, Marissa Daniels and Kaylee Achor. They came in second place. • The HHS boys swim team fell to Clinton-Massie, 51-12.
Micah Pinney took second place in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Noah Kunce took second place in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Coach Joe Rhonemus was happy with the team’s results, stating, “With tonight being our first meet of the year, I am very pleased. We had a lot of kids swimming in their first meet ever and they did an amazing job.
"I am very proud of the effort the kids showed. We are a young program and scoring is based on a points system. It is difficult to score high in a meet with so few participants; with that being said, we were able to be close to a very good Massie team. We have several freshmen who stepped right in and swam very well, and our seniors lead by example. I am still figuring out everyone’s strongest events. Tonight's outcome helps me start planning the season out a little better."
The team competes next against Chillicothe on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m.
