A dedication ceremony for the Hillsboro tennis courts was held Thursday afternoon before the girls tennis match, and five seniors were honored as the Hillsboro Lady Indians hosted the Jackson Ironladies in Frontier Athletic Conference play.
Though the Lady Indians lost by a 1-4 team score, the matches all were played strongly by the Lady Indians, including a first doubles win from senior Morgan Kemper and junior Julia Hart. The victorious duo defeated Lillie Houser and Caitlin Camp by scores of 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
The rest of the Lady Indians were unable to gain wins, but they didn’t make it easy for their conference opponents. In first singles, senior Jessica Moon lost to Sydney Humphries by scores of 3-6, 0-6. Second singles was another closely contested match with HHS senior Breanne Fender playing three sets, as she won her set — the second set of the match — by a 6-2 score. She lost set one at 2-6, and the third set came down to a 5-7 score.
In third singles, senior Abby Harmon had a close match too against Jackson’s Alyson Bragg at 3-6, 4-6. The second doubles match saw HHS juniors Kenzie Adams and Johanna Holt lose by scores of 0-6, 1-6.
Seniors for the Lady Indians who played their final home match were Moon, Harmon, Fender and Kemper, plus senior Samantha Stodgel was unable to play in the match due to a medical clearance.
Results for the Lady Indians’ second FAC match of the night — against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers — were not submitted at time of posting. They will be added when submitted.
