It was a battle of two season-best scores thus far in 2017 once the Hillsboro Lady Indians and McClain Lady Tigers finished their nine holes of golf on Wednesday at Buckeye Hills Country Club in Greenfield.

Once the scores were tallied up, it was Hillsboro who were the winners on the road, defeating their county rival by a score of 184-204 in Frontier Athletic Conference play. The plus for both teams though was it was the two teams’ best overall score this season and for the tenure of each of their coaches as well.

In Hillsboro’s 184 score, Kristin Jamieson led with a score of 37, followed by a score of 46 from Emily Loudin and a 50 by Mallory Parsons.

Also for HHS, there was a 51 shot by Larkyn Parry, a 55 from Madi Stratton and Abby Myers shot a 64.

“This was our best score since I’ve been coach at Hillsboro,” HHS head coach David Hilliard said. “Larkyn shot her career-best, as she highlighted that with a birdie on the sixth hole. Mallory also birdied the sixth hole. She also nearly made an eagle as the ball lipped out on her approach shot from the fairway.

“I’m very pleased with the score — we want to shoot consistently under 200.”

Now for the Lady Tigers, in the 204 score, that is the best round for the team in at least the past three seasons. Bryn Karnes led the Lady Tigers with a 44 score, and teammate Bri Weller shot a 52.

The Lady Tigers also had scoring from Elissa Grate and Kendall Pollard, who each shot a 54. Erika Martin totaled a 57 score, while teammate Cassidy Willis finished with a score of 70.

“In my three years as golf coach, this is our lowest score,” MHS head coach Jarrod Haines said. “I’m very proud of Bryn and Bri for shooting career-lows.”

Next for the Lady Indians is a non-conference match at Wilmington against the Hurricane on Thursday, Aug. 17. The Lady Tigers of McClain will play again on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Jackson.
