Hillsboro defeats McClain to move on to sectional finals

For the third time this season, the Hillsboro Lady Indians were able to gain a win over the McClain Lady Tigers, and this time the stakes were higher than they were in the regular season. This time, the Lady Indians gained a win in the Division II SE District Sectional Semifinals by an 8-1 score, Tuesday at HHS.
Hillsboro dominated the first half of the sectional semifinal, building a 5-1 advantage after 40 minutes of action, but it was McClain who scored the first goal of the match with a goal from Kelli Uhrig at the 36:36 mark for the 1-0 lead by McClain.
That all quickly changed with the Lady Indians scoring five unanswered goals in the first half, followed by three more unanswered in the second half for the seven-goal win.
Hillsboro’s first goal was scored at the 33:48 mark of the first half by Brynn Bledsoe for the 1-1 score. Next, HHS took the lead with a goal at the 31:02 mark by Paige Howland.
Next, the Lady Indians scored their third goal with 22:43 left in the opening half as Callan Myers made it a 3-1 lead. From there, the final two first-half goals came from Emily Hawk with 7:39 and 3:16 left in the first 40 minutes of action for the 5-1 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Lady Indians had goals from Hawk — who earned the hat-trick — along with goals by Myers and Molly McCreary with the assist from Bledsoe for the 8-1 final.
The win advances Hillsboro to a sectional final match on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Unioto with an 11 a.m. start at UHS.
