The Hillsboro varsity track team held their first home track & field meet for the first time in around 17 years on Tuesday evening at HHS, with the boys team winning the inaugural meet by defeating the Western Brown Broncos and the Washington Blue Lions.

HHS scored 85 points to seal the win, while the Broncos were second with 52 points and the Blue Lions third at 40 points.

The Indians won 11 of the 17 events on Monday.

"We had some pretty decent performances (Tuesday) from the kids, especially with the elements we had with the cold and wind later in the meet," HHS boys head coach Bud Marsh said. "Conditions went from nice to really cold.

"For an early track meet, the first one of the year, I was pleased. We didn't fall over any hurdles, and our field events were decent."

HHS won three relay events, including the 4x800-meter relay with a 9:14.9 time. The 4x8 team consisted of Zach Middleton, Chase Vance, Noah Kunce and De-Andre Steward.

In the first-place effort of the 4x200m event at 1:35.00 was the team of Gabriel Tamborski, Mackenzie Conlon, Luke Gallimore and Braden Wildey.

A third relay win for the Indians came in the 4x400m event with the Indians finishing with a first-place time of 3:48. This team consisted of Tamborski, Wildey, Gallimore and Conlon.

"Our sprinters did well in our relays, and Mackenzie ran well. He was a good anchor to have in the 4x4."

Other first-place finishes included Wildey in the 100m dash at 11:06 and Steward in the 1600m event at 5:00.68.

Tamborski won the 400m dash, finishing with a .57.07 time, and in the 300m hurdles, Conlon was first at 43:36. Steward also won the 800m run at 2:14.23, and in the high jump, Jeremy Hayton won with a jump of 5-6.

Wildey won the 200m dash at .23:76, and in the pole vault event, Austin Goolsby won with a vault of 10-6.

Hillsboro's 4x100m relay team was second at 48.22, with Tamborski, Hayton, Gallimore and Conlon running the race.

The Indians also had second- and third-place finishes in the 100m hurdles with Goolsby in second at .18.12 and Hayton third at .18.24. Hayton was second in the long jump for the Indians at 17-2, and in fourth was Goolsby at 16-9.

Anthony Anderson placed second in the 100m dash at .11:20 (he was fourth in the 400m dash at 1:01.09), and Middleton was second in the 1600m run with a time of 5:14.47. He was also second in the 3200m run at 11:35.

Jared Conn was fourth in the discus with a distance of 100-2. In the 800m run, HHS also had the second- through fourth-place finishers with Kunce in second (2:15.88) followed by Gallimore (2:23.46) and Britton Haines (2:24.76).

"The kids were positive, enthusiastic and they ran well for being the first meet," Marsh said. "We have a lot to look forward to, and there is room for improvement, but overall I'm very pleased."

In the girls event, the Lady Indians were second overall by scoring 47.5 points, with the Washington Lady Blue Lions winning the event with 82 points and Western Brown placing third with 43.5 points.

"We had a lot of excitement with this being our first meet at this new track," HHS girls head coach Sarah Horsley said. "We were physically ready for this, but this was very mentally and emotionally overwhelming for them to come out here and host the meet on their own track for the first time."

The Lady Indians won four events at their inaugural meet on their new home track, including the girls high jump event won by Jayme Maynard with a height of 4-8.

Allie Goolsby won the 100m hurdles event with a time of 15.44.

Brittney Brown was the winner in the long jump event at 14-9 for the Lady Indians, and Reaghan Haines placed first in the 800m run with a time of 2:51.29.

"Reaghan had a nice night," Horsely said. "After the 1600, she came back and told me she didn't run her best race, and that she was going to redeem herself in the 800 because she could do better."

In the 4x800m relay, HHS finished with a time of 11:50, and in the 100m hurdles Aiden Chaney was fourth for HHS (18.31). The HHS 4x200m relay team was second at 2:00.93 and in the shot put, Alyssa Sullivan was second (31-10) and Riley Moberly was third (28-3).

"Aiden did well on the hurdles, but I had to use her as a last minute replacement in a relay event," Horsley said. "Aiden didn't question me, and said 'OK, what leg am I?' Grabbed her spikes and went. That was nice to see.

"Hagen was the anchor in three relays, worked hard and put on a good performance."

Tyreika Rickman was fourth in the high jump (4-4), and the Lady Indians' 4x100m relay team finished in second with a time of 56.08.

Haines was also fourth in the 1600m run (6:28.10), and in the long jump, Emily Earley was third at 13-4.5. Haines placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 6-6, and in the discus, Sullivan placed fourth at 71-9.

Also for the Lady Indians, Morgan Holland was fourth in the 32000m run (14.47.65), and in the 300m hurdles, Chaney was fourth (1:00.53). HHS was also second in the 4x400m relay at 4:46.53.

"I was somewhat pleased with the meet, but we still have some things to work on still," Horsley said. "The wind was a factor for us, because the girls said they were having a hard time breathing while running and wearing down due to that.

"I see a lot we can improve on."

HHS will race at the Zane Trace Invitational on Thursday.
