Hillsboro boys earn district runners-up; McClain’s Chayden Pitzer wins 3 district titles

The Hillsboro Indians earned the Division II SE District Runners-Up trophy at the two-day district championship meet held in Washington C.H. on Tuesday and Saturday. The Indians scored 85 points for second place, trailing only the Miami Trace Panthers, who totaled 94 points for the district championship.
HHS won a total of five district championships for the boys meet, including Austin Goolsby winning the pole vault and long jump events, Draven Stodgel winning the shot put event, Ty Alexander winning the 400-meter dash and the 4x400m relay team of Tyler Workman, Britton Haines, Mark Gallimore and Alexander being the champions of the event.

Goolsby had a height of 14-06.00 in the pole vault and in the long jump had a leap of 20-08.75. Alexander won the 400m dash with a time of 51.96. Stodgel was the champion of the shot put with a distance of 52-07.50. Hillsboro’s 4x400m relay team won with a time of 3:34.67.
Not to be outdone on the girls side, McClain’s Chayden Pitzer won three district championships and also was a district runner-up in another event. Pitzer won the 100m dash with a time of 12.76, followed by a 100m hurdles win with a time of 15.70 and a 300m hurdles win with a time of 46.97. In her runner-up finish, Pitzer was second place in the 200m dash with a time of 27.03.
Besides the winners listed above, qualifying for the Division II Regionals for next week — placing in the Top 4 — were for McClain: Kerigan Pollard in the 300m hurdles with a third-place finish in the 300m hurdles, and the girls 4x100m relay team of Jaelyn Pitzer, Pollard, Hunter Scott and Emma Stegbauer, who were fourth with a time of 53.12.
For Hillsboro, the boys state qualifiers other than the district champions include: Kole Maynard, who was fourth place in the discus event; and for the HHS girls, the 4x800m relay team of Sami Blair, Sydney Lanning, Molly McCreary and Jaeleigh Hart, who were third at districts with a time of 10:51.68.
The Division II Regional Track and Field Championships will take place Thursday, May 24 (5 p.m.) and Saturday, May 26 (11:30 a.m.) at Muskingum University.
