Hillsboro boys bowling team wins sectional title

The Hillsboro boys bowling team competed in the Division II sectionals held at Shawnee Lanes in Chillicothe, Friday, and in the process won the sectional championship.
After McClain took an impressive first-game lead, later followed by Zane Trace after individual games, the Indians were in second place.
With the lanes drying up, the Indians began to roll better and better each game, though after two baker games, Zane Trace had a 83-pin lead on the Tribe. However, they had to cross lanes with Hillsboro for the first time and roll on a lane that HHS had bowled on already.
That aspect of the match helped the Indians, as ZT didn’t keep their scoring pace, and after the next two baker games, the Indians not only erased the ZT lead, but they took over the top spot by 15 pins.
Once the Indians took the lead, they never let go, with scores of 226, 237, 216 and 212, to eventually win the tournament by 111 pins over the second-place Pioneers. In third was New Lexington, and the last qualifier for districts were the Washington Blue Lions.
The McClain boys bowlers placed fifth overall, and Lynchburg-Clay was seventh. For MHS, Lucas Miller qualified for districts as an individual, and LC had Logan Dye qualify for districts.

The Hillsboro Indians advanced to district finals to be held at Sunrise Strikes in Zanesville, where the Indians have never competed before. The lanes are a bit different, along the lines of Wilmington’s Royal Z Lanes, according to HHS coaches Shane Ison and Jeff Miller.
“We will be going up to hold practice in Zanesville on Monday afternoon and we will see how they do,” the coaches said. “We will say this, we have eight boys that will give everything they have on Tuesday. They are the most talented team we have ever coached, and they have the will to finish what they have started.
“They have to finish in the top two to advance to state for the second year in a row. There will be some good teams there, and we know who they are. However, they know who we are as well, and there isn't anyone looking past us. We are going to hit them with everything we have.”
