Hillsboro bowlers earn double wins in Chillicothe

On Saturday, Jan. 2, the Hillsboro Indians bowling teams faced off against 13 boys and 10 girls schools in a Baker bash tournament in Chillicothe.
Through the qualifying round of 16 Baker games, the boys led the field with an impressive 3,149 to qualify as the number-one seed. The closest boys team was Zane Trace with 2,948.
The elimination round was best out of three Baker games to advance. Hillsboro first faced Logan Elm, the number 8 seed. The Hillsboro boys won both opening games to eliminate them.
Hillsboro then faced off with Washington in the round of four, also winning in two games.
In the finals, the Indians won the first game and then dropped the second game, only to rally back and bring home the championship.

For the Hillsboro girls bowling team, it was back and forth all day with the Miami Trace and Zane Trace girls teams.
In the final set of 16 Baker games, the Indians dug deep and pulled ahead of Miami Trace girls by 83 pins with a score of 2,655 to take the number-one seed.
In the first round, the Hillsboro girls took out Logan Elm in two games. In the second round, the Zane Trace girls posed little threat, and the Indians downed them in two games.
The finals were against the Washington girls team. The Hillsboro girls won the first game, only to drop the second game. The Hillsboro team fought hard to defeat Washington by two pins and take the gold for the day.
“Overall, it was a good day,” girls bowling coach Jeff Miller said. “For the coaching staff, we are very pleased with the performance and overall poise of both teams. They all faced adverse lane conditions and still found a way to dig deep and win.
“We have a long way to go, and we have to set our sights on our schedule for this week and next.”
The match moves the Hillsboro boys team to 14-0 and the Hillsboro girls team to 13-1.
Hillsboro will face Washington and Miami Trace again Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Highland Lanes, followed by a road match at Wilmington.
“We have a tough road, but we are extremely talented on both the boys and girls side,” Miller said.
