Hillsboro High School graduate and University of Cincinnati sophomore Jeremy Hayton has been named All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Both University of Cincinnati track & field teams, along with 11 individual Bearcats, were selected for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced recently.

Overall, six women and five men earned individual honors based upon their high academic marks and athletic success in competition during the 2020 indoor season (the 2020 outdoor season was not conducted because of the COVID-19 global pandemic).

The six women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2020 indoor season, led by Irati Mitxelena (jumps), who earned her third career award from the USTFCCCA. Kennedy Marable (jumps), Malin Smith (throws) and Katie Straus (multi-events) each earned the honor for the second year in a row while both Taylor Beard (high jump) and Ellie Leather (distance) earned their first awards for the Bearcats.

Of the five men that earned recognition, four did so for the second times in their respective careers. That list includes Damien Berthenet (multi-events), Aaron Bienenfeld (distance), Chris Borzor (sprints) and Arthur Greenlee IV (hurdles). Additionally, Jeremy Hayton (high jump) earned his first honor.

All told, 463 NCAA Division I teams were honored, with the Bearcats women being one of 264 squads earning the achievement and the men ranking as one of the 199 as both recorded at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for the academic year. Individually, 659 women and 452 men (1,111 total) were honored for their achievements.

To be eligible for the award, individuals must maintain at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average and meet one of the following athletic standards: must have finished the season ranked in the Top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the Top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).

For the seventh year in a row, both Bearcats teams earned academic distinction from the Association as both met the standards in the classroom. The women combined to post a cumulative GPA of 3.555, while the men posted a mark of 3.309.
