The Hillsboro Indians will see junior Austin Goolsby back at the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships with the state runner-up from a year ago qualifying for the Division II pole vault event for a second straight year.

Goolsby qualified back to state on Thursday at the 2017 Division II Regional Track and Field Championships at Athens High School with a vault of 15-00.00 for first place overall in the event.

Earlier this postseason, Goolsby also won the district pole vault event in Washington C.H. with a height of 15-06, and at the South Central Ohio League Championships in early May, Goolsby won the league crown at Hillsboro High School with a height of 15-00.00.

Goolsby advances to state one year following a spectacular performance on the big stage. During his sophomore year, Goolsby placed second last season at Division II OHSAA State Track and Field Championships with a height of 15-08.00, a Hillsboro school record.

Also at Division II Regionals on Thursday, the Hillsboro Indians and McClain Tigers combined to qualify to the regional finals in eight events that will take place this Saturday.

The Indians and Tigers will each have their 4x100-meter relay teams racing in the regional finals. The Hillsboro team of Austin Kimball, Jeremy Hayton, Luke Gallimore and Goolsby were fifth place in the prelims with a time of 44.32. McClain’s team of Tristan Pitzer, Landree Gray, Tyler Jackson and Jensen Knaff finished sixth at 44.66.
