HILLSBORO — Building a 5-2 lead in the first half, the Hillsboro Lady Indians never relinquished their lead in the final 40 minutes against rival McClain on Tuesday night, gaining a 8-3 win at HHS in South Central Ohio League action.
The onslaught of scoring by the host Lady Indians in the first half began less than two minutes into the contest as Callan Myers scored the first two goals of the match for the Lady Indians, including the first goal at 38:38, then again minutes later at 35:08 for the quick 2-0 lead.
The next goal for HHS didn’t wait long either, as Hope Tira placed the ball into the back of the net at the 34:17 mark of the first half for what was a three-goal advantage.

Hillsboro added a fourth goal to their lead when Lillian Van Zant made it a 4-0 score at the 16:32 mark, and the final goal of the first half came from Cadence Myers with the first-half clock reading 7:00.
Callan Myers gained a hat-trick with a goal to start the second half with 39:24 on the clock, later following with a penalty kick from Tira (37:40). A final goal from HHS came with 12:50 on the clock as Madi Marsh scored the eighth Lady Indians goal of the SCOL match.
“We were strong in the first half and played them even in the second half,” HHS head coach Jeremy Ratcliff said. “First game after fair week, it probably wasn’t our best performance, but we did what we had to do to get a league win and that’s most important. We just have to go back to work tomorrow and work on getting better.
“This was our first game in about 12 days. Yesterday we were rusty at practice (after fair week), and before the fair I felt we were playing at a high level, and I don’t think we got to that point (Tuesday). Part of that was due to (McClain) and them putting a lot of pressure on us. (Taylor) Polley is a great player. She scored 10 goals in a game, and (Tuesday) we let her get loose and she put the ball in the back of the net.”
Cadence Myers and Marsh each led HHS with two assists, while Natalie Sullivan had one assist.
All three of McClain’s goals were scored in the second half, all by Taylor Polley, at times of 32:50, 25:40 and 15:20.
Riley Moberly was the keeper for HHS in the first half, pitching a shutout at goal while gaining one save.
The win moves HHS to 5-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCOL.
