Four teams finish in Top 10 at Ohio Classic

HILLSBORO — On a very hot Saturday morning, 373 high school cross-country runners ran in the annual Ohio Classic cross-country meet at Liberty Park in Hillsboro with three local boys teams placing in the Top 10 out of 25 schools that competed for the team title.
Fairfield was the highest-finishing team in the boys high school division with a third-place finish overall with 145 points. For the Lions, Michael Mangus led with a county-high sixth-place finish with a time of 17:56, for a mile pace of 5:47. Other FHS runners included Blake Hildebrant (19:07), John Cain (19:39), Wyatt Crothers (19:43), Dustin Willey (21:16), Brant Huff (22:09), Matthew Leach (22:43), Tyler Sims (25:41), Jacob Dalton (27:49), Jacob Rammel (28:40), Layne Irvin (30:48) and Alec Irvin (35:51).
Collin Rothwell was the highest finisher for the fourth-place Indians (206 points), crossing the finish line in ninth (18:14). Other HHS runners included: Nathan Boone (19:44), Wyatt Gleadle (20:44), DJ Davis (20:56), Gabriel Tamborski (21:13), Deandre Steward (22:03), Brendan Eltzroth (22:37), Joe Beery (22:41), Christian Gunderman (24:09), Corey Tinnel (24:22), Guy Bailey (26:00), Cameron McConehea (26:04), Dakota Bullock (26:18) and Sawyer Davis (30:20).
For the McClain Tigers, their highest finisher was Caleb Mootispaw in 14th place (18:48). Other MHS runners included: Chris Eltman (20:21), Isaiah Isaacs (20:32), Evan Onusko (21:05), Jeremiah Savage (22:23), Daniel Addington (24:54), Tristan Smith (27:27), Micah Mootispaw (30:16), Ryan Bennett (34:51) and Joey Jones (39:33).
MHS finished in seventh place with 257 points.
The winning team was Kings High School with the second, third, fourth, seventh and 10th place finishers, scoring a total of 26 points.
In the girls run, Hillsboro led Highland County with an eighth-place finish. HHS scored 214 points.
For Hillsboro, Alyssa Hauke led with a time of 24:09 for a 17th-place finish. Other HHS runners included: Brittany Ferrell (25:14), Hannah Opst (25:52), Krista Savage (29:49), Shelby Bobbitt (29:50), Kristina Stanfield (30:46), Christian Holinshed (31:02), Alyssa Miley (39:56) and Jennifer Smith (40:30).
For McClain, Sarah Davis had a time of 26:02.
Fairfield runners included: Heather Cox (27:34), Brenna Simmons (28:41) and Haley Bobb (37:18).
