Lead Summary

If you remember correctly, the Scioto Valley Conference had three teams qualify for the 2013 OHSAA Playoffs in DIvisions V and VII.
Those three teams were Paint Valley, Westfall and Zane Trace, as those three were also the tri-champions of the conference with each having a conference mark of 5-2.
I thought what I saw and read of the SVC last season made for a very competitive football conference, especially with the teams (Adena and Piketon) at 4-3, just one game off of being in the conference championship celebrations last year.
Unioto was 3-4 in the conference, followed by Southeastern at 2-5 and Huntington at 0-7.
Back to the playoffs last year … Paint Valley returned to Week 11 for the first time since 2003, but bad luck ended their season against Sidney Lehman Catholic, by a 44-9 score.
[[In-content Ad]]I'm really interested and even excited to see what the Bearcats bring to the table this year, as they could be better than their 8-3 record last season.
They (I think) will be returning a good core group of players who have been starting games since their freshmen season. They will be a team to keep an eye out for.
Even though Westfall made the playoffs last season, they have a new head coach as Brian Spicer (also a former Hillsboro head coach) resigned this offseason. The new head coach is Shane Patterson.
Westfall lost in the playoffs to Region 17 No. 2 ranked Martins Ferry, 30-28. Martins Ferry was also ranked by the Associated Press.
Spicer has since gone to Woodmore High School, a team that went 15-25 the past four seasons, according to an article by the The News Messenger.
Zane Trace lost their playoff game to Region 17 No. 1 ranked Columbus Bishop Hartley, 64-7, but also remember Hartley was ranked by the Associated Press, winning Region 17 (Division V) in the process. Hartley eventually lost in the Division V state championship game to Coldwater.
I really mean this … if you get a chance to see a couple of the better SVC teams play against each other, you shouldn't be disappointed. I had the chance to watch Paint Valley three times last season, and their game against Southeastern (PV won 34-24) was one of the best games I got to watch all season.
We'll continue our football discussions on Thursday. Remember, if you have any ideas or suggestions, leave a comment, or email me at sforsha@gmail.com.
