Forsha on Football Post 1: Tuesday, July 1, 2014: Welcome Back
Lead Summary

We have entered the month of July, so that means before we know it, we'll all be enjoying high school football on Friday nights in the fall.
I'm not trying to rush the summer away by any means, but it is always a good time to start thinking about the high school football season.
As always, I want to use this as a way to talk about not only the South Central Ohio League, but the Scioto Valley Conference, the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference and other football conferences in Southern Ohio.
Today, let's just start out by looking at how the SCOL finished up last season, as we all know the league has a two-time, back-to-back Division IV State Champion in Clinton-Massie returning to defend their crown.
Not only have they won every playoff game they've played in the past two years, but they have a current winning streak of 38 games in the SCOL, winning at least a share of every league title since 2006. Their SCOL record since joining in '05 is 53-2.
That's domination.
Here is a look at the final standings for SCOL teams last season (including playoffs), as Clinton-Massie, Chillicothe and Miami Trace all reached the playoffs last season:
Clinton-Massie (6-0, 14-1)
Chillicothe (5-1, 9-2)
Miami Trace (4-2, 7-4)
Washington (3-3, 5-5)
East Clinton (2-4, 3-7)
McClain (1-5, 4-6)
Hillsboro (0-6, 1-9)
Also new for the SCOL this season is the addition of the Wilmington Hurricane to make this league even tougher than it already was with three playoff teams from a year ago.
Wilmington also has a new head football coach this season, with former Clinton-Massie defensive coordinator Scott Killen taking over for coach Rob Vida, who led the Hurricane to an overall record of 54-48 and two playoff appearances in 10 seasons.
If nothing else, the SCOL should be really fun to watch and keep track of at the top of the league this season, and even with the teams that will be in the bottom half of the league, when they face each other, there should be some exciting games as well.
What I'm looking to see this upcoming season is who will be that "surprise" team or the team that moves up a spot or two in the standings from the hard work they put in this summer.
I know it sounds cliché, but games are really won in the summer by those teams who put in the work in the weight room. The more a team puts in work in the weight room in the summer months, I guarantee the better they will play in the fall. It is that simple, really, if you think about it.
This blog will be updated on a daily basis, so be sure to check it out, tell all your football friends and bookmark it. This is going to be a fun time.
