Defense sends Lady Indians to SCOL win at EC

Defense was the key to the Hillsboro Lady Indians' win on Wednesday night, but having eight players in the scoring column didn't hurt matters, either.
The Lady Indians traveled to and returned from Clinton County with a 59-28 win over the East Clinton Lady Astros in South Central Ohio League action.
"We were very pleased with our defensive effort (Wednesday)," HHS head coach JR Moberly said. "All of the girls made big contributions."
HHS (5-4, 11-5) had four players score in double figures with Madison Snyder leading the way with 14 points, followed by Kaylynn Bell with 12, Hannah Kibler with 11 and Kirsten Juillerat totaling 10 points.
Kibler had three of her 11 points coming from one 3-pointer, the only 3-pointer made by HHS in the game.
Also for HHS, Trista Rhodes scored six points, while Reaghan Haines, Taylor Chaney and Tyeika Cumberland each scored two points.
HHS finished 10-of-15 from the free-throw line.
As for that aforementioned defense by the Lady Indians, they held the host Lady Astros to just eight points in the first half, including zero points in the second.
Hillsboro led 36-8 at halftime.
In the final two quarters, HHS scored 13 points in the third and 10 in the fourth. EC added six points to their total in the third and in the final eight minutes had their best quarter of play by putting 14 points on the home side of the scoreboard.
EC (0-9, 1-14) went 4-of-10 in free throw shooting.
The Lady Astros were led in scoring by Carpenter with 12 points, which included three 3-pointers.
