Here is the deal for the 2018-19 boys basketball season when it comes to games for the Frontier Athletic Conference standings … it will be a battle and should be exciting from here on out.
“From here on out” might be the wrong way to describe it because the season, after three conference games, is already exciting. That is because four of the teams in the conference — the Chillicothe Cavaliers, Jackson Ironmen, McClain Tigers and Washington Blue Lions — all have 2-1 records in the FAC standings. Not far behind are the Hillsboro Indians at 1-2, and the Miami Trace Panthers have yet to gain a FAC win at 0-3.

Looking at the Top 4 teams of the FAC, it jumps off the page that all four are talented and competitive teams, as the four squads also have overall winning records early in the season with Chillicothe at 4-3, Jackson at 4-1, McClain at 5-1 and Washington at 3-2.
In speaking with area coaches about this conference, they know as well this is a competitive conference, and it won’t be easy for whomever eventually wins the FAC title.
The conference scoring for all four teams with 2-1 records early in the FAC season draws a keen interest as well, as listed below are the average points per game scored and points per game allowed, along with total points scored and allowed in FAC games this season:
• Chillicothe Cavaliers
Points Per Game Scored: 54.3 (163)
Points Per Game Allowed: 45.7 (137)
• Jackson Ironmen
Points Per Game Scored: 59.7 (179)
Points Per Game Allowed: 46.0 (138)
• McClain Tigers
Points Per Game Scored: 53.7 (161)
Points Per Game Allowed: 50.0 (150)
• Washington Blue Lions
Points Per Game Scored: 56.3 (169)
Points Per Game Allowed: 52.3 (157)
The rest of the FAC looks like this:
• Hillsboro Indians
Points Per Game Scored: 48.7 (146)
Points Per Game Allowed: 61.0 (183)
• Miami Trace Panthers
Points Per Game Scored: 40.7 (122)
Points Per Game Allowed: 62.7 (188)
This week’s FAC schedule is just as competitive as the following games are on the schedule within the conference matchups:
Tuesday, Dec. 18
- McClain at Washington
- Jackson at Miami Trace
Saturday, Dec. 22
- McClain at Hillsboro
- Jackson at Chillicothe
- Miami Trave at Washington
For Tuesday’s games, what draws interest for the McClain at Washington game is the fact the Blue Lions score 56 points per game in FAC games, while the Tigers allow just 50 ppg. Washington is allowing just under 53 ppg. And the Tigers are scoring nearly 54 ppg when it comes to FAC competition, so once this game is complete, the age-old question could be answered: which will gain the win, strong offense or strong defense?
Saturday is rivalry night in the FAC with area rivalry ties connected to each of the three games, which makes for an exciting night of basketball not just for the players, but the community, too. Having a night like this right before the holiday season is being celebrated makes for a special night in the surrounding area.
Tuesday and Saturday are just another step in what is a competitive season in the FAC. As the season continues for FAC teams, not only will their non-conference schedules continue to make their season interesting, but the conference schedule will be very competitive, too. So far, the FAC has given fans excellent basketball, and that trend should continue.
