3 advance to state cross-country championships

PICKERINGTON — Highland County will be well represented in the 2011 State Cross-Country Championships next Saturday as Hillsboro's Collin Rothwell and Fairfield's Michael Mangus and Blake Hildebrant all raced their way to Top 16 finishes in their respective regional meets the Saturday at Pickerington North High School.

In the Division II meet, Rothwell, a senior, finished in 10th place with a time of 17:21.51. His average mile was 5:35.3.

In the Division III meet, Mangus, a sophomore, finished in seventh place with a time of 17:21.31 for an average mile of 5:35.2.

Also earning his way to the state meet was Hildebrant, a sophomore, with a 14th-place finish in the Division III Regional run with a time of 17:37.42 for an average mile of 5:40.4.

To reach the state meet, individual runners had to place in the Top 16. Teams had to finish in the Top 4.

For Hillsboro in their Division II meet, they finished in 13th place as a team with a time of 1:35:20.45 for an average finish of 19:08.34. Running for HHS in the regional meet were Nathan Boone (70, 18:56.94), DeAndre Steward (88, 19:24.90), Wyatt Gleadle (92,19:29.55), Joe Beery (115, 20:07.55), D.J. Davis (120, 20:23.04), Brenden Elzroth (125, 21:22.66).

Winning the Division II meet was Adrian Ross, a senior from Unioto, with a time of 16:10.29.

For LC, Quinn Stoltz finished in 66th place with a time of 19:23.26 in the Division III meet.

Also running for the Lions in their Divison III meet were John Cain (34, 18:43.76), Wyatt Crothers (55, 19:03.62), Dustin Willey (71, 19:31.22), Brant Huff (103, 20:38.20) and Matthew Leach (108, 20:45.38). As a team, the Lions finished in 6th place with a team time of 1:32:17.33 for an overall finish time of 18:27.47.

The boys State Division III run is scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. The boys Division II run will follow at 3 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 5 at National Trail Raceway, 2650 National Road SW, Hebron, OH 43025, www.NationalTrailRaceway.com. National Trail is located approximately 25 miles east of Columbus off Interstate 70. If you are coming from the west, take Exit 122 off I-70, turn left on Outville Road (State Route 158), then in one mile turn right onto National Road. If you are coming from the east, take Exit 126 off I-70, turn right onto Lancaster Road (State Route 37), then in one mile turn left onto National Road.[[In-content Ad]]
