2018 Overall Record: 5-17

There is improvement wanted to be made for the upcoming 2019 season, and Hillsboro head coach Nichole Dickey has a team ready that can make those necessary improvements to jump up in the standings of the FAC.

Hillsboro has three seniors in Abby Brown (third-year varsity, outside hitter), Katie Condo (third-year varsity, setter) and Paige Loudin (third year-varsity, outside hitter). Along with the senior class, the juniors consist of Hope Middleton (middle hitter, DS, second-year varsity) and Julie Middleton (DS, second-year varsity).

Brown last season totaled 104 kills, 31 digs and three aces. Condo totaled 23 kills, 27 aces, four solo blocks, 21 total blocks, 60 digs, and 357 assists. Loudin finished last season with 78 kills, 25 aces and 21 digs.

The sophomores for the Lady Indians are Gracie Dean (outside hitter, DS and setter, second-year varsity), Gracie Michael (outside hitter, first-year varsity), Emma Birkhimer (middle hitter, DS, first-year varsity) and Sinai Roberts (DS, first-year varsity).

Hope Middleton returns with an ’18 season that included 32 kills, 25 solo blocks, 43 total blocks and 40 aces. Dean totaled 26 kills a season ago, plus she added 82 digs, six total blocks and two aces. Julie Middleton collected 64 digs and 33 service receptions a year ago.

Of the nine players listed on the roster for HHS, six of them are returning lettermen from last season, and the seniors are going to be looked at to be leaders on the court.

“I definitely look to my seniors to lead and keep the team morale up,” Dickey said. “They have all three been varsity players for three years and know what I expect on and off the court.”

Dickey also spoke about the team in general before the start of the 2019 season, including conference play.

“I believe in these young ladies. I just need them to believe in themselves, and they will have a good season,” she said. “The girls played together a lot this summer, which definitely helped with team dynamics. We also had a very good camp at Cedarville.

“As we know from the past couple of years, the teams in our league are always competitive, and I expect nothing different this year.”
