For the 10th consecutive year, The Highland County Press presents the First and Ten High School Football Preview Edition. For officially a decade now, this high school football preview publication has worked to bring the most information available about the upcoming seasons, and this year is no different.
There is a lot to be excited for this year as the Frontier Athletic Conference is back for year three, and for the first two seasons, the championship has been decided in Week 10. Last year, the Jack O’Rourke-led Hillsboro Indians and the Jackson Ironmen, under Andy Hall, shared the conference championship with 4-1 records in the FAC. Remember, Coach O’Rourke was the Division III State Coach of the Year after leading the Indians to a 9-2 overall record and their first playoff berth since 2005, which was also the last time the Indians had won a conference championship.

This upcoming season also brings us battles in the Scioto Valley Conference and the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference, as both of those conferences have schools in the area who are wanting to put their imprint on the 2019 high school football season. That includes the SVC’s Paint Valley Bearcats, who are coming off a 11-1 overall record last year and have a majority of that roster back for this season. They are led by Pete Hollon, who is entering his 24th season as the head coach at Paint Valley.
As always, this publication wouldn’t be possible without the advertisers within these pages, and we encourage everyone to patronize their businesses throughout the entire 2019 high school football season. “Thank you” isn’t enough to express our gratitude for their support for the local teams and this publication.
A lot has changed within the landscape of high school football since the first publication was written in 2009, including the South Central Ohio League being defunct, as that league was a main focal point of the first publication. The First and Ten has expanded greatly since ’09, and without the support of our readers, the work it takes to create it wouldn’t be as worthwhile. Thank you for reading and for your support for the past decade.
Good luck to the area football teams — enjoy the season, and make memories that last a lifetime.
