Hillsboro Post 129 bows out of American Legion Baseball District Tournament

The 2023 Region V American Legion Baseball District Tournament saw Hillsboro Post 129 go 0-2 in the double-elimination tournament on Monday and Tuesday (July 17-18) in Chillicothe. 

Hillsboro’s two losses moved their overall record to 4-18 for the ’23 summer season.

On Monday (July 17), Hillsboro Post 129 lost to Yeager-Benson Post 199 by a 20-3 score in five innings, a game where Post 199 scored five runs in the top of the first, but Hillsboro followed with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.

Post 199 answered with a seven-run second inning, then added four runs in the third and four more runs in the fourth. Hillsboro Post 129 scored one final run in the game during the bottom of the fifth inning, but eventually lost via the run-rule.

Yeager-Benson finished with 19 hits and no errors. Hillsboro ended the game with seven hits and committed two errors.

Easton Daulton ended the game for Hillsboro at 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and a steal.

Ben Matthews was 1-for-3 with a double, while teammate Hunter Burns went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI.

Brady Lung was 1-for-2 with one RBI, and Isaac Eyre was 1-for-2.

On Tuesday, July 18 Hillsboro Post 129 lost to the Post 142 Shockers, 9-6.

Post 142 scored a run in the top of the first for a 1-0 advantage and took a 2-0 lead with a run in the fourth inning. Hillsboro tied the score at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Shockers broke the tie with a four-run top of the fifth, but Hillsboro responded with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning for a 6-5 deficit.

Post 142 added thee runs in the top of the seventh, and Post 129 added one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Post 142 finished with 10 hits and no errors. Hillsboro totaled nine hits and committed six errors.

Daulton finished 2-for-4 with a run, and Collin Rothwell went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Burns went 1-for-2 with a run, two RBI, and a walk. Brady went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Isaac Eyre finished the game with one RBI and one walk, while teammate Tyler Tomera-Hiller was 1-for-2 with a walk. Zach Burwinkel was 1-for-2 with a run.
