'A Winter Wonderland:' Capacity crowd at HDH Foundation Holiday Ball

Outside on an unseasonably warm Saturday afternoon, there was golf being played on the Hillsboro Elks course. But inside the Hillsboro Lodge, it was a whole different story as more than 200 area residents gathered for a time of fun and fellowship at the annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Holiday Ball.
“It may be 70 degrees outside, but in here, it’s a winter wonderland,” said Foundation Chair Vicki Rhude.
The lodge was adorned in lights and Christmas decorations as the capacity crowd celebrated another successful year for the foundation. In addition to dinner and music, there was a silent and live auction, and a John Deere Gator vehicle from Five Points Implement was raffled off during the Holiday Ball.

“The hospital could not do what it does without the generous support of a caring community,” HDH Foundation Director Cathy Jones said. “Thank you to everyone who has supported in the past and will continue to do so in the future.”
Jones said that community support has helped enhance patient care services by making accessible ultrasound equipment that is used to detect and diagnose many types of disease; providing essential respirators helping critical care patients breathe better; and supporting the Highland District Hospital Foundation health fair that provides multiple, beneficial health screenings and wellness information for our community.
“I do hope you have gained some inner satisfaction in knowing through your support you have made our community a better place to live, to work, and to raise a family,” Jones said to the large number of attendees at the Holiday Ball.
“At Highland District Hospital, we are committed to meeting the health care needs of our community and providing compassionate care today and in the future.
“We are always challenging ourselves on ways to make the health care experience better for our patients, our community, our physicians, nurses, caregivers and staff. We need to constantly improve every facet of health care services we provide to you, your family and neighbors. We are driven by a single overriding goal – to make sure that you, your family, your friends and your neighbors have access to local, outstanding effective, efficient care whenever the need arises.”
On that note, Jones said that the foundation is currently working with hospital leaders “to transform your emergency room into a top performer.”
“We know our plans for renovation and expansion are important,” Jones said. “And we know that the community’s support, via philanthropy, is essential and needed. I look forward to sharing our plans with you in the very near future.”
