Wenstrup issues statement on continuing resolution

This week, the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution (H.R. 5325) that funds federal government operations until Dec. 9, 2016. Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-2) released the following statement upon passage of the bill:
“The government does not work well for the American people by repeatedly passing continuing resolutions. I remain committed to restoring regular order and enacting larger budget reforms. However, while not ideal, this bill keeps the government open and includes several positive measures for our constituents:

“Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) work at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant – This CR provides adequate funding to the Piketon plant so that D&D operations can continue without job losses or delays, something the Ohio delegation has worked tirelessly to secure.
“Ohio’s fight against the opioid epidemic – This bill allots $7 million to implement the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) over the next 10 weeks. CARA, which was signed into law in July, takes important steps not only to increase treatment resources for those battling drug addiction, but also to expand prevention efforts against this deadly epidemic.
“Full funding for our military infrastructure and veterans – Attached to the CR is legislative language that provides full funding for veterans’ care and military infrastructure projects for the entire 2017 Fiscal Year. Provisions to improve oversight at the VA, address the backlog of VA disability claims, and prohibit the closure of Guantanamo Bay are also included.”
H.R. 5325 was signed into law on Sept. 29.
