Wenstrup comments on president’s revised plan for troop withdrawal in Afghanistan

Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-2), member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s revised plan to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan:

“While the President’s new 8,448 cap on troops in Afghanistan is better than the previously proposed 5,500 cap, it is lower than the current cap of 9,800,” Wenstrup said. “That implies that the situation in Afghanistan has improved.

“That doesn’t jive with the increased strength of the Taliban. Our troop levels should always be based on the needs of the war effort.”
