Volunteers needed for 9/11 flag memorial at Ohio Statehouse
In commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) is seeking volunteers to install a memorial flag display on the west lawn of the Ohio Statehouse. The 9/11 flag display will be open to the public from Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. in downtown Columbus.
On the evening of Sept. 10, 2024, a brief program will inaugurate the memorial at 5 p.m. at the Ohio Statehouse. After the ceremony, volunteers from across central Ohio will install the thousands of flags that form the memorial.
Fifty volunteers are needed to help install these 2,977 flags representing each victim of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93. The installation is planned from approximately 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Volunteers are also welcome to attend the program at 5 p.m. Additionally, a few volunteers are needed to straighten the flags on Saturday and Sunday, then uninstall the display Monday, Sept. 16 at 12 p.m.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the installation, maintenance or de-installation may contact Emily Volkmann at (614) 466-9335 or evolkmann@ohiostatehouse.org. Please sign up as soon as possible.
