UPDATED: Multiple departments respond to apartment fire
At approximately 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District, Station 23 in Hillsboro was alerted to the possibility of a structure fire in the apartment complex at 120 Taylor Drive within the City of Hillsboro.
Apparatus and personnel started to arrive on scene within three minutes from the time of call and were presented with heavy smoke issuing from the front door of one apartment. It was determined that the building had not been totally evacuated, and fire personnel along with officers from the Hillsboro Police Department, ensured all residents had been safely evacuated.
The fire was brought under control by the units on scene by 11:05 a.m.
The apartment containing the fire was heavily damaged and sustained significant damage, including roof damage from the fire. The apartments adjoining the affected apartment sustained minor damage from smoke and water.
The residents displaced by the fire were assisted on scene by the American Red Cross and were also assisted with relocation assistance.

A Paint Creek EMS unit transported the occupant of the apartment involved to Highland District Hospital for further evaluation. The occupant had non-life threatening injuries. There were no injuries reported for fire personnel.
Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District was assisted on scene by automatic mutual aid companies from Lynchburg Joint Fire & Ambulance District, Highland County North Joint Fire & Ambulance District, Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department and a ladder from Wilmington Fire Department in Clinton County.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation with an undetermined cause and is not deemed to be suspicious in nature. All fire rescue units were available from the scene by 12:44 p.m.
