The Hillsboro Police Department and Highland County Sheriff's Office investigated a bomb threat at Hillsboro High and Middle Schools, Friday afternoon.
The Hillsboro Police Department reported that they received a call at 11:48 a.m. from Hillsboro Middle School in regards to writing on one of the stalls in the boys bathroom. The writing indicated that there was a bomb in the school.
Students were evacuated to the soccer field until given permission by law enforcement to return to the building. According to Hillsboro City Schools, students were allowed to return to the building prior to 2 p.m., and afternoon activities will continue as planned.

According to the Hillsboro Police Department, officers from the police department, along with deputies from the sheriff's office, conducted a search of the entire school building, including lockers and areas that students do not have access to. The police department will continue the investigation with the assistance of the school administration.
